Biomechanics & Injury

Our services

At Active Life Podiatry, we offer biomechanical evaluations that assess your structure, strengths, weaknesses and alignment.

Using the latest diagnostic techniques, we can immediately target the cause of your pain, create a treatment plan and prevent recurring problems. We take a holistic approach to treatment and always look at your body and structure to detect any underlying issues.

Biomechanics and musculoskeletal treatments are available at our main clinic in Parsons Green, or at our clinic in Putney at The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy.

Biomechanical Assessment

Biomechanics is the study of the function and motion of the mechanical aspects of a biological system – our bodies.

At Active Life Podiatry, our expert podiatrists look at the whole body in terms of posture and movement to understand the underlying cause of pain or injury.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is used primarily for wound healing, pain relief and soft tissue repair.
It is a drug-free, non-invasive treatment used in podiatry.

Dry Needling & Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe and proven procedure using very fine needles inserted into the body at precise points for a variety of therapeutic purposes. There are two forms: Traditional Chinese and Modern Western. Insertion of acupuncture needles opens up neural pathways, increases blood flow, and produces neurochemicals known to reduce swelling and pain

At Active Life Podiatry, we use the Modern Western approach, also known as ‘Dry Needling ’ based on modern understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Injection Therapy

Steroid Injection therapy is a treatment that can be prescribed for the improvement of painful foot and ankle conditions that are associated with inflammation. Injection therapy involves using a needle to inject a steroid into a joint space or soft tissue. Sometimes, by using a combination of corticosteroids (a powerful painkiller) and hyaluron (Ostenil™) it can help to reduce pain and inflammation or improve quality and joint range of motion.

Foot & Ankle Mobilisation

The human foot and ankle are a strong, complex and brilliant mechanical structure comprising 26 bones and over 100 ligaments.

Joints, ligaments and muscles in your feet and ankles can become stiff, weak and painful following injury, overuse, arthritis, or after surgery. These joints, ligaments and muscles can be successfully treated using Foot & Ankle Mobilisation (FMT).

FMT is a hands-on treatment that targets stiff joints in the foot and ankle which are poorly aligned and painful, with the aim of improving their function, and ultimately reducing pain.

Orthoses

Orthotics is the branch of medicine that deals with the provision of artificial devices such as splints, braces, and insoles. They are used to correct or treat injuries and other problems within muscles, joints, and bones.
